Google Takeout

Put the real date back on Takeout photos.

Takeout stamps download day. The real time is in the JSON sitting next to the file. PixWipe follows Google’s 2024 51-character sidecar names, including (N) duplicates, and writes Windows dates. GPS restore stays off — we are a privacy app.

The five tools people already use

Paid GUI, clever CLI, or a script you maintain. PixWipe is the local folder drop that already knows the 51-character rule.

The 51-character trap

Until 2024, Google named sidecars `IMG_1234.JPG.json`. Then they switched to `IMG_1234.JPG.supplemental-metadata.json` and truncated the whole name to 51 characters while keeping `.json`. Long iPhone names silently miss their sidecar. Paid apps that still look for the old pattern leave those photos on download day.

PixWipe implements SupplementalSidecar the same way gpth Neo does, plus the `(1)` duplicate marker. GPS from the JSON is shown in the inspector and is not written unless you check “Also restore GPS.” Default off. That is the privacy brand.
